GALLERY IND.では2025年3月7日よりフランス人アーティスト、オリヴィエ・カテによります弊ギャラリーでの三回目の個展「アジア・ストア」を開催いたします。2021年"Contemplations"、2022年"Gardens to visit"に続く本展では、アジア諸国の使用済み梱包輸送用ダンボールにインク、水彩絵の具、色鉛筆、木炭、石墨で描かれた風景画シリーズ"Asia Store"を展示いたします。

このシリーズもオリヴィエ・カテ作品の特徴の一つとなりますノイズ、スピード、建築物など都市の持つダイナミズム、その空間に流れるエネルギーやコミュニケーションのネットワークと自身のインスピレーションを"ジャンク"な支持体に投影した作品群になっています。このシリーズ作品の制作を開始した2022年春には次のような言葉を残しています。

パンデミックは遠ざかったようだった、戦争が始まり、私はぼんやりとした地平線、静かな放浪を望んだ。

雨の日の夢は遠く、

私の小さなアジアン・ストアは角を曲がったところにあった、

確かに私はグルーヴできる。    　　　-

 AのがらくたはBの宝物という言葉さながら、用済みダンボールを独特な感性でアート作品へと再生させるオリヴィエ・カテの"Asia Store"。推進力のあるリズムの中で変化するパターンが生み出す効果やダメージ加工の感触をお楽しみください。

GALLERY IND. is pleased to present ‘Asia Store’, the third solo exhibition at the gallery by French artist Olivier Catté, starting 7 March 2025, following ‘Contemplations’ in 2021 and ‘Gardens to visit’ in 2022. The exhibition will focus on the series ‘Asia Store’, a series of landscape paintings made with ink, watercolour paint, coloured pencil, charcoal and graphit on used food packaging cardboard from Asian countries.

The works in this series are also characterized by Olivier Catté's own inspirations, which are projected onto ‘junk’ supports, along with the noise, speed and dynamism of the city and its architecture, and the energy and communication networks that flow through the space. In the spring of 2022, when he began to work on this project, he said;

The pandemic seemed to be moving away, war was setting in, I wanted blurry horizons, silent wanderings.

Rainy Day Dream away,

My little Asian Store was around the corner,

Sure I can groove.

ARTIST STATEMENT

「アジア・ストア」の絵画シリーズは、コロナ後の幾度かに渡る外出制限で、これまでの生活習慣が乱れた2年後に始まりました。これらの外出制限は、慣れた生活リズムを狂わせましたが、私にとっては、物質的なものにとらわれず、制約もほとんどなく、良心的な生活に捧げられた時間となり、有益で実り豊かな、自分自身を満たすことだけを目標にした期間となりました。

ゆっくりと時間が流れる中、私は近所のアジア・ストアの前の舗道に置かれた小さな梱包箱に目を奪われました。それは丁寧にたたまれたまま、リサイクル回収車を待っている様だった。

カラフルで、エキゾチックで、何千キロも旅をして、私の目の前にやってきた箱たち。私の空想と思索を存分に発揮し、自分の限界を超えて考える、新しい経験が約束されたように見えました。私の瞑想のささやかなシンフォニーの中で、インクの走り書きやいたずら書き、鉛筆のストロークなどが、商業ロゴが入ったカラーゾーンで対峙する。 

時空を超えて、物質とエネルギーが、世界と私自身とのつながり、つまり私の意識の反映であるような、抽象的な風景に辿り着くため、全ての要素に立ち向かい、直感的に調和させようとするのが楽しかった。 

 The ‘Asia Store’ series of paintings began after two years in which successive confinements disrupted habits and limited travel. These confinements had the consequence of upsetting the usual rhythm of life. For me, it was a time when only my own self-fulfilment became a goal in itself. A time given over to a life of conscience, a virtual absence of constraints, a useful and fruitful time, disinterested in material things. 

 It was in the midst of all this slowness that my attention was drawn to the small cardboard boxes carefully folded and lying on the pavement in front of my local shop, Asia Store, before the recyclable materials collection vehicle passed by. 

 Colourful, exotic, having travelled thousands of kilometres before landing before my eyes, they appear to me as the promise of new experiences. An opportunity to think beyond my own limits, a medium in which to pour out the reflection of my daydreams and contemplations, and to confront, in modest symphonies, my jets of ink, scribbles, pencil strokes and floating areas of colour with logos and commercial inscriptions. 

 I liked confronting and trying to harmonise all these elements in an intuitive way to end up with abstract landscapes in which space and time, matter and energy are the reflection of my connection between the world and myself, the reflection of my consciousness.
